August 05 Talking about Hot & Dirty: Stars We Like Better Grimy - MSN Moviesuh......yum yum! Hot & Dirty: Stars We Like Better Grimy - MSN Movies March 05 Ticket UpdateI realized last night that I desperately wanted to go see The Swell Season. And that I would pay a premium for the tickets. So I looked around on some ticket outlets and was looking at $140/ticket for the "worst" seats in the house. You know the ones, all the way back in the balcony that likely requires binoculars - not that the Moore is that large, but anyway... I checked Ebay. 2 tix, on the floor, row F. How freaking amazing?! And I won't disclose how much I paid for both, but will just say it was less than $140/ticket.
I feel a sense of peace now.
Still pissy about the whole "honest" scalping thing...but I'm going to the show so I'm happy. March 04 Ticket RIP OFF!So I really really want to see The Swell Season the end of April when they play in Seattle. It's sold out. Ticket outlets are charging a minimum of $130/ticket for the worst seats in the house. If I wanted decent seats I'd have to spend upwards of $300/ticket. I freaking despise these ticket outlets in OTHER states that buy up tickets and sell for a premium. Sure sure...I understand it's their business and all. But why then do I suffer?! There was a time in my youth when we only bought tickets at a ticket outlet - before the fancy convenience of the internet, phone orders were near impossible. But now, when I can actually afford to pay a premium for tickets, well it just pisses me off!!! Anyone out in the Seattle area wanting to sell me two tickets? hahaha...didn't think so... February 05 Talking about YouTube - Wiener poopieOK - I should not be laughing at this. I am going to hell... November 07 Talking about Blockbuster dials back on Total Access after mail-order bloodbathI'm SO glad Netflix is comingt of this ahead of Blockbuster. Not that they are the "little guy" any more...but I've never been a big fan of Blockbuster. November 05 Can you believe it?Henry Rollins made a list on MSN for "Bromance"...did the journalist listen to anything he has to say...what is the world coming to?! October 21 Dancing QueenSo Matador was fun. The food and drinks were really good. I just wonder if a place like that will survive in Redmond. There are two rooms, we were in the room away from the bar. I think had we been in the bar-room, it would have been more of our crowd. The ones that go out on a Saturday night, single or not. Either way, it was good to catch up with my girls and have some food & drink. Then afterwards, one went home. And the other two went dancing. We ended up at this place Norman went to a few months ago with my girlfriend and another. Strong techno beats, crowd about our age, and pretty good drinks. They had three DJs cycling through and two were really good, one was mediocre. I had two guys tell me I was trouble, what the hell does that mean? I had another guy playfully push me, I told him not to push. So he pushed me again. I told him to stop. Then he pushed me again, I flipped him and I walked away. The only times in my life I've nearly gotten into it were related to dance floor disrespect. I'm the type that likes space when I dance. I do not like strange men coming up and grinding on me, not unless I invite them in. I do not like that men assume because I'm on the dance floor that they can do what they please. And I have no problems telling the bouncer that someone needs to leave. Hm, maybe that's why I'm trouble. All up, it was a good time. I like dancing, I miss it. I used to go out twice a week when I was in high school/college. But what I need to find is a club with industrial & techno. Industrial first. I'm on the hunt now... July 21 Harry PotterNorman and I went to see Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix last night. I think the movie was quite good. Then we popped into a local place for a drink and some food. Off to Border's for the Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows release party. It was so cool to see all the "kids" (children, teens, adults...) so excited for this event. We did not stay to pick up a copy as we literally would have been about 1,000th in line. Plus, Amazon delivered ours this morning.
As I took the box over to the kitchen table to open. I had this sense of sadness that the series was coming to an end. That there would be no more Harry Potter release parties. And in a few days, I too will know the fate of Harry Potter (I am rather successfully avoiding all press stories about the book).
I just hope there is a smiliar something for A when she gets older. And that she enjoys the books as much as we do. June 30 PromLast night I went to Prom with a girlfriend of mine. This local cover band, Dudley Manlove Quartet was the headliner at the Showbox in Seattle. My friend and I were contemplating whether we should go 80's prom or not. We didn't. We should have. It was really weird looking around as it felt like this cross between my senior prom (Our year to shine in '89!) and a 20-year High Scholl reunion in timewrap. The music was fabulous 80's...the hair was all side-pony tails, crimp, feather waterfalls, and scrunchies. O...M...G... We had such a good time. Next year, we are going full out 80's prom with more friends. June 18 Gwen StefaniWe saw Gwen Stefani Saturday night. The show was incredible. It's been a long time since I saw a concert that was a production; complete with dancers, elaborate sets, costume changes. I didn't realize she was such a superstar. I said that to Norman and he gave me that what-boulder-have-you-been-livin'-under look.
Not to take away from my pleasure of the show, the commute to-and-from were horrendous! It took us two hours each way! We spent more time in transit than we did at the concert. Although I saw some new parts of the state I'd never seen before... All up, the crazy commute was worth it. Every last second. May 31 Talking about Harry Potter theme park set to open - TODAY: Books - TODAYshow.comHOW freaking cool is this? Honestly, I don't know that is has the staying power of a Disney park...but so freaking cool!! Quote Harry Potter theme park set to open - TODAY: Books - TODAYshow.com April 23 Talking about MSN - News - In Defense of Alec BaldwinThank GOD someone has finally said something in defense of Alec Baldwin. Every word the author published in this article rang true for me. I don't condone what Alec said or how it likely hurt his daughter. I do understand how the rage can boil up. I do not have many interactions with A where I'm that angry (thankfully) and follow through on the rage. I have numerous moments that I stop myself, count to ten and carry on. I usually have the self control to stop myself. I can recollect two distinct times in her life (short 4 years) that I have lashed out at her and to this day I still feel guilty about it. I've come to learn this is part of being a parent. I don't think there are any perfect parents out there like the author writes about - the kind that don't hurt their kids in any fashion. And I'm including all types of pain; physical, mental, psychological, emotional... It's human nature. If we hurt those around us, why wouldn't we also hurt our kids? I just hope I'm raising my daughter to understand we aren't perfect and I can get forgiveness from her in the future. What disturbs me more is that Kim Bassinger was vindictive and conniving enough to have that message published for all of us to hear. That damned message should have been deleted the second it was heard. Perhaps even before his daughter even heard the whole thing. I've seen it through a close friend where the child gets "infected" by the custodial parent and the other parent is left to deal with the wrath of their former spouse. Children should not be brought into the conflict between parents, particularly not used as a pawn. (admitting this is an assumption on my part, maybe his daughter ignores him or her own decision). If I ruled the world today, I would wipe that tape from the public eye and keep it where it belongs. In the family and any necessary law enforcement officer needing to follow through on custody/child issue. Quote MSN - News - In Defense of Alec Baldwin April 19 Talking about Is Katie Holmes breaking free of Cruise control? - Gossip: The Scoop - MSNBC.comBeing the gossip junkie I am, I saw the story below on MSNBC and clicked away. Now - I would not want to see Katie & Tom break up over something trivial. But when it does come to fruition that the two of them split, I really really hope it's Katie that initiates the whole thing. I would like to believe she can be strong and stand up to the ego that is Tom Cruise. Am I evil? Never said I wasn't... Quote Is Katie Holmes breaking free of Cruise control? - Gossip: The Scoop - MSNBC.com April 06 Stop with the mash ups alreadyI saw a headline online yesterday referring to Gyllenspoon. I don't remember what site it was. Not the point. Come on people!! Can we please stop massacring celebrity names and identities?! It was cute when started, but it's so old and so done at this point. Gyllenspoon?? They are desperate to keep the trend going. I think even Jeese or Rake is better...not by much mind you...but better than Gyllenspoon.
...sigh...
The things I waste my time on. February 23 Another perspectiveI really like Dooce's post about post-partum depression. Puts a new light on things huh? February 12 Gotta love innovationNorman and I, good Microsoft employees, each got a Zune last fall when they came onto the market (and Norman was still an employee). Nearly 3 months later and last night experienced one of the coolest features. Norman has signed up for the Zune Marketplace subscription so he can download music without purchasing to listen to. I've been asking him about the new Norah Jones for at least a week now. So last night at the kitchen table he beamed me, zuned me, socialed me (is there a term I don't know yet) 4 songs from the album. Seems the device won't allow the beamer to send an entire album to the beamee, I'm not too upset with that. I'll just take his Zune this week one day to listen. It was quite exciting for me.
It's the little things you know... February 06 24 HeroesFor those of us caught up in the sci-fi, conspiracy theorist, super hero aspect of television - Monday nights pose a difficult choice. 24 with Jack Bauer (and I think he does fit in the super hero category thank you very much) or Heroes with the slew of interesting and tangled web of people. After last weeks shows, I was adamant we were watching Heroes last night. After all, who is Claire's dad? But then it came down to it and we watched 24.
(24 Spoiler Alert)
And can I just say it was SO obvious that Morris was the engineer that was identified to help Fayed. Come on 24, the surprises are surprising (like Dr Romano turning out to be Jack's brother) but some are just so obvious. Now, this obvious attempt entertains my husband to no end. Why? Because I start yelling at the TV about the answer. Picture unscrambling, I'm yelling - It's Morris you fools, don't let him leave the building! Damn it, why won't you listen to me?! Seriously - I honestly yell this stuff at the television.
(End of 24 Spoiler Alert)
So we haven't watched Heroes yet. Norman is out of town until late late tonight, so tomorrow is my first opportunity. When Lost returns to the air. Graned, Lost is coming on at 10pm when I'm usually falling asleep, but that leaves plenty of time to catch up on Heroes mysteries.
In other news - well, there really isn't any other news. We had a pretty low-key weekend. I got a new laptop as my old one fried the monitor and it now hooked up to a very old (6 years old) monitor in the garage so I can do email and enter Money transactions. I got the rest of the software today, and am getting excited to set up my new machine. When I'll fit that in, not quite sure yet.
And I guess that's about it. I should get back to work now. Not that you care...I just never know how to end these posts. January 07 LaughterNorman and I just finished Little Miss Sunshine. I haven't laughed that hard at a movie since The 40-year Old Virgin. Steve Carell? Coincidence? Yes...I think so. Anyway, if you haven't checked it out yet, definitely add to your Netflix list.
I went out with the girls yesterday afternoon and saw The Holiday. That was a great chick-flick. And I loved Jude Law's character. Not Jude Law mind you, but the character. We all decided in a few weeks we are going to see Casino Royale (again). Yum-O!!
OK, need to get ready for bed.... October 13 Truth or consequencesOK, I admit, I don't believe Mel Gibson's apology to Diane Sawyer for one single second. You want to know why, he states that ... "when you're loaded, you know, the balance of how you see things — it comes out the wrong way." Um, has no one ever told him that alcohol serves as a truth serum? If you ever want to get anything secret and hidden out of me, ask after two drinks. No, two drinks won't get me drunk, but I'll be tipsy enough to spill my guts. Of course in sobriety sitting and talking on national TV he can rationalize and tell whatever story he wants. Will people believe him? Yeah, of course. Then there are those of us that don't buy the lies. That's me, I don't buy the lies.
It's Friday. Good times. Tomorrow is a trip to the pumpkin farm. Then Norman is off to DC for a few days and A and I will be having quality girl's time. I'm looking foward to it. As difficult as it has been lately, I am looking forward to some quality time with my girl. I was thinking of picking up Mary Poppins for us to watch tomorrow night with "copcorn". Or maybe I'll get a bag of kettle korn at the farm tomorrow for a special movie treat ... yum-oh!
Tonight she and I are going to make a coffee cake for breakfast tomorrow. Don't know which recipe yet, but it will be a good one. |
